LiveDiver is an interactive website that allows anyone on the internet to physically control a real submarine at an aquarium, from inside the tank.
LiveDiver turns your computer into a command center, controlling a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) inside the shark exhibit at the Aquarium of Boise. Piloting the ROV in realtime from your electronic device takes you beyond the glass, and lets you observe and explore marine life from a diver’s perspective. You can surface, dive, and fly the ROV throughout the habitat to get an unparalleled, live every time underwater experience. LiveDiver puts you in the water with some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. We hope that you will take command, explore, become inspired, and support marine life, education, and conservation worldwide.
When the submarine is not being piloted by the general public, the tank at Aquarium of Boise is utilized for private “one-on-one sessions with the biologist” in schools and classrooms across the country. This project supports Aquarium of Boise’s mission to “educate and inspire the conservation and enhancement of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems through hands on interaction,” taking it to an unprecedented level.
With LiveDiver, educational institutions from anywhere in the world can now Reach-in to the aquarium and learn about marine life like never before. Classroom field trips that inspire students to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) can now take place from the computer lab. Marine biologists can stream a live lecture for classroom discussion while students simultaneously pilot the ROV. LiveDiver brings the classroom physically into the exhibit for a one-of-a-kind hands-on experience, without the time and cost to bus a classroom to the aquarium.
In short, LiveDiver enables any classroom in the world to have underwater access…instantly.
